If you're stuck in an area with cell service but no data, or if you've finagled your way into an Android phone without a data plan, free app Smozzy lets you browse the web through text and picture messages.
Smozzy looks like a normal browser, but operates entirely through SMS and MMS messages. You just type a URL in the navigation bar, which it sends to Smozzy's servers, and returns a page as a series of MMS messages. It's not something you'd want to do serious browsing on, but for a quick article read or weather check, it can be pretty handy to have around if you don't subscribe to a data plan. Just make sure your SMS plan is unlimited, or this can get costly quickly.
Smozzy is currently in beta and only works on T-Mobile right now. We gave it a test on a friend's T-Mobile device and found it to be pretty slow, but with all the popularity its experiencing today, it's likely that the servers are just hammered. If you're on T-Mobile, give it a whirl when you get a chance and let us know how it goes!
Smozzy is a free download for Android devices.
