Having lived through more than a few hurricanes and other weather events, and having just seen devastation from Hurricane Sandy, we know how important it is to have reliable information..
Stu Fisher, president, Devon B & Master at Kings Point in Tamarac, has bragging rights about the expertise of his daughter, Genene Fisher Ph.D. Stu sent me an article that had me slackjawed at Dr. Fisher?s accomplishments.
She is the senior advisor for space weather at NOAA?s (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) National Weather Service Headquarters, so Stu has a heads-up on all things weather related. We can have that too. He sent me the link to get to the NOAA site that will provide associations with early warnings and firsthand information.
It?s http://www.noaa.gov. Go onto that site and you?ll see the great amount of information that?s there.
Dr. Fisher is an expert on the effect of solar activity on global navigation systems, which are vulnerable because of that activity. She presented a 2011 ground-breaking report ?Satellite Navigation & Space Weather: Understanding the Vulnerability & Building Resilience.?
Dr. Fisher was able to connect those with expertise in science and policy because she?s an expert in both, with a master?s degree in public policy and a doctorate in atmospheric and space science completed simultaneously at the University of Michigan. Now you see why I was so impressed.
Meeting so many great people and learning about them and from them are some of the best things that have happened during my tenure as president of the Broward Coalition as well as being a Sun-Sentinel blogger.
