Review: The Bathampton Mill ? NOW Bath

Nestled in the cosy village of Bathampton, just 5 minutes outside of Bath, lies the Bathampton Mill. Boasting fine cuisine that is a twist of modern English laced with Mediterranean influences, this restaurant/bar offers traditional food-lovers a great choice. There is the option to sit at the bar and enjoy a snack, however we had decided to test out which main meals the Bathampton Mill had on offer.

On arrival we were greeted by a cosy setting, wooden tables were dotted around the large seating area creating a chilled out atmosphere. The restaurant area was quite busy, we had booked ahead and our table was the only empty one. However, the atmosphere was still very relaxed as the plan of the seating area is large enough so that you aren?t overpowered with the presence of other diners. The service was brilliant, the waiters were very attentive and offered us a drink straight away. I ordered a glass of Ros? which was presented before me within minutes of asking.

At a first glance the menu appeared simple, split into sections such as ?Pasta?, ?Pizza? and ?Stove, grill and rotisserie?. However, from further reading, we soon determined that what was on offer was very versatile, appealing to anyone who likes proper English food. With so much choice ranging from steaks to freshly cooked pizzas, it took us a while to select which dish we wanted to taste. The prices of the meals ranged from ?7.45 for a pizza to a whopping ?17.95 for steak, the menu assures the finest ingredients are being used, so I feel that the price looked reasonable. Finally I settled on the lasagne, I had asked for a small as the other pasta dishes had the option for downsizing, the waiter explained the Lasagne was not available as a small option, however he assured me that the dish itself was extremely large. I was very apprehensive as to whether I would be able to finish it, with the way he had described it!

When the dish arrived, after about 30 minutes of waiting, it was not as big as I had been expecting. The portion size was suitable for me, however I feel that a more enthusiastic eater would have found themselves wanting more. It looked delicious, laid beneath a scattering of rocket, it wasn?t drowned in sauce and the pasta looked perfectly cooked. It tasted just as good as it looked, the quality of the ingredients melted into my mouth. The pork was extremely tender, it tasted gorgeous with the tomato sauce (which wasn?t too rich!). During the meal the waiters maintained their excellent customer service, asking if everything was to our standards. Overall, the meal was delicious, however I feel they could have been a bit more generous with their portion sizes considering the amount that we were paying.

I feel that this would be a suitable venue to bring friends and partners for a treat. Although they do not have a children?s menu, there is an option to downsize the pasta meals, the pizzas on offer would also be suitable for children, so taking your family is an option. I feel that the Bathampton Mill is a perfect venue for a relaxing meal if you do not mind spending the extra pennies for good quality food. I would recommend it to anyone.
