Carrie Hofstetter will return to her Alma Mater in her first head coaching position.
The job opened up after former Hastings College Women's Basketball Coach Jeff Dittman resigned on June 7th to return to Dakota State University to lead their basketball program and become Athletic Director.
It took only eleven days to find his replacement.
"Its slightly surreal," Hofstetter said today, inside the Legacy Room at Lynn Farrell Arena in Hastings. "I think I'm still in a bit of shock. This happened somewhat quickly but like I said I couldn't be more excited,"
Hofstetter graduated from Hastings in 2004 after leading the Broncos to 2 NAIA National Championships in her time as a Bronco. She has spent the past four years as an assistant coach at Fort Hays State under former Hastings head man Tony Hobson.
For new Athletic Director Jerry Schmutte, the decision to bring the former All-American in was an easy one.
"I feel very fortunate to have her as my first hire here, but quite honestly, it was a no brainier."
Hofstetter brings an impressive resume to the table.
As a player, she led the Broncos to a 121-22 record in her four years, including the 2 national titles. Just a year later, she was an assistant coach under Hobson on the Broncos 2005-2006 National Championship team.
Hofstetter played her prep ball at Sandy Creek, Winning four state titles.
