Melissa ShanhunPlease tell us a little about yourself, your family, your background? I?m a wife of five years to my dear husband Phill, mum to Emily (2) and new addition bub #2 Edward, born in early May 2012. I live in Perth, Western Australia. I work part-time from home ? doing all sorts of bits and pieces! I?m a University Tutor in IT, archives, library & records management. I also do some social media consulting for a local non-profit organization http://www.thefatheringproject.org. I also run digital scrapbooking classes in person and online at http://digitalscrapbookinghq.com.

How did you become a scrapbooker or memory-keeper? I had done a lot of ing and up and was given a scrapbook album for my 21st birthday. I created a basic scrapbook then and didn?t really do any more until we got married. I enjoyed reading the Aussie scrapbooking magazine Creating Keepsakes, and then I spotted a digital layout. The layout talked about freebies found through Ikea Goddess, and that was the start! I downloaded some freebies and started scrapbooking with them. ?I?ve paper-scrapped a little, but I love how clean and tidy digi-scrapping is with a little one around the house. Since learning about digi, I?ve done 100s of layouts, cards and hybrid projects and I?ve just ordered my 5th photobook! Back when I?d come home every day with a new free gift, prize or crazy story, Dad said I should write a book. Well, I was thinking the other day that I am. I?m thankful for my hobby, which allows me to preserve our family?s stories along with our pictures. I love the fact I can use my graphic design skills and my computer skills, it?s heaps of fun too! I?ve blogging since 2003 and digi-scrapping since 2007.

How would you describe your scrapbooking style? I?d say my style is simple shabby. I love big photos and occasionally some clustering.

When do you scrapbook? How much time do you spend on this activity during a typical week? I usually spend a couple of hours a week either scrapbooking or organizing my photos.

What is your favorite way to capture the journaling part of your scrapbooking? I use my Memory Logbook or Oh Life to record little things from the day. I also rely on my memory a lot.

What story from the past do you most wish had been documented so you and/or your family could enjoy it now? I am blessed that two out of my four family lines are quite well documented, thanks to some family historians.

What is your favorite source of scrapbooking or design inspiration? I?m inspired through blogs like Scrappy Jedi and Ali Edwards ? and sites like the Daily Digi, Simple Scrapper.

What is your favorite part of scrapbooking/memory-keeping? I love seeing my family looking through the printed copies or commenting on my layouts on Facebook.

What do you find the most challenging about scrapbooking/memory-keeping? Making the time the scrapbook? I have ideas galore and little stories jotted throughout my Memory Logbook.

How has your scrapbooking changed since you first started? (or has it?) I now scrapbook a lot more project-based, rather than just individual pages. I?ve found that with the projects (typically photobooks) I can maintain the motivation to keep going and finish!

Please share one piece of advice on how to capture everyday real life memories for others new to scrapbooking and/or memory-keeping? Start where you are! What memory would you like to share? Start with the memory that makes you excited to document it!
